ai:::

Infraorbital nerve block landmarks include the infraorbital ridge, the infraorbital foramen (felt as a depression about 1-1.5 cm below the infraorbital ridge), and the pupil (which aligns vertically with the infraorbital foramen). Another method uses the nasal alae to draw a horizontal line, with the foramen found at the intersection of this line and a vertical line from the pupil. Palpation should be gentle to avoid pain when the finger is near the nerve exit.

External (Percutaneous) Approach

  1. Locate the infraorbital ridge: Palpate the bony structure of the lower eye socket.
  2. Find the foramen: Feel for a depression about 1 to 1.5 cm below the infraorbital ridge. This spot is where the infraorbital nerve exits the skull.
  3. Align with landmarks: The infraorbital foramen is typically located in line with the second bicuspid tooth and the pupil of the eye.
  4. Insert the needle: The needle is inserted at the depressed area and directed slightly upwards towards the foramen to deposit the anesthetic.

Internal (Intraoral) Approach

  1. Find the injection site: Locate the gum line in the mouth, specifically the “mucobuccal fold” (the junction of the cheek and gum).
  2. Identify the canine fossa: A vertical line drawn from the pupil, combined with a horizontal line from the nose’s alae, helps locate the infraorbital foramen just above the second premolar.
  3. Insert the needle: The needle is directed upward and outward into the canine fossa, aiming for the infraorbital foramen.
  4. Use a finger for guidance: A finger can be kept over the foramen externally to help guide the needle and prevent accidental entry into the orbit.

Key Anatomical Points

Anesthetized Areas: An infraorbital block typically anesthetizes the ipsilateral (same side) lower eyelid, side of the nose, upper lip, and anterior teeth.

Infraorbital Nerve: This nerve is a terminal branch of the maxillary nerve, which is the second branch of the trigeminal nerve.

Infraorbital Foramen: This is the opening in the bone through which the infraorbital nerve emerges.

ai:: nasal alae

For an extraoral infraorbital nerve block, the nasal alae are a key landmark used to locate the injection site for the infraorbital foramen, which lies just superior to the alar base. The provider places the needle in the tissue superior to the alar base, and the alar base serves as a visual and physical guide for positioning the needle to block the infraorbital nerve.

  • Locate the landmark: Identify the nasal alae (the wings of the nose) and the infraorbital foramen, which is located just above the space between the alar base and the canine tooth.
  • Position the needle: Insert the needle through the tissue at a point slightly above the alar base, moving towards the infraorbital foramen.
  • Administer the anesthetic: Inject the anesthetic to block the nerve and anesthetize the areas it supplies, including the lower eyelid, upper lip, nose, and the pulpal and soft tissue areas of the incisors, canine, premolars, and the mesio-buccal root of the first molar.

ai ::: infraorbital nerve block landmarks

Extraoral approach

This method involves injecting through the skin of the face.

  • Pupil: Just as with the intraoral method, the vertical mid-pupillary line is the key landmark for locating the foramen.
  • Infraorbital rim: The bony lower margin of the eye socket. The infraorbital foramen is approximately 1 cm below this rim.
  • Infraorbital notch: To palpate the foramen, first feel for the infraorbital notch on the lower rim of the eye socket. Then, move your finger downward until you feel a depression or concavity, which is the foramen.
  • Injection site: Insert the needle at the point where the mid-pupillary line intersects with the palpable depression of the infraorbital foramen, approximately 1 cm below the orbital rim

(Anesthesia/Action Area)

(Indications)

I. Généralités et Anatomie

locoregionale = locoregional (combining “local” and “regional”)
consistant à = consisting of, consisting in
déposer = to deposit, to place
un = a (indefinite article)
anesthésique = anesthetic
local = local
à proximité = in proximity, nearby, near

du = of the (contraction of “de + le”)
foramen infra-orbitaire = infraorbital foramen (anatomical opening)
point de sortie = exit point, point of exit
du nerf = of the nerve
afin d’ = in order to, so as to
interrompre = to interrupt, to block
la conduction = the conduction, transmission
sensorielle = sensory
de ses = of its
branches = branches
terminales = terminal, end

: convulsions).

ge – Beschreibung des Verfahrens: Blockade des Nervus infraorbitalis

Beschreibung = Description
des = of the (genitive article)
Verfahrens = procedure, method, process (genitive form)
Blockade = Block, blockade
des = of the (genitive article)
Nervus = nerve (Latin)
infraorbitalis = infraorbital (Latin)

(Infraorbitalnervenblockade)

I. Allgemeines und Anatomische Grundlagen

Allgemeines = General information, general matters, overview
und = and
Anatomische = Anatomical
Grundlagen = Foundations, basics, fundamentals

sp – Descripción del Procedimiento: Bloqueo del Nervio Infraorbitario

(Bloqueo del Nervio Suborbitario)

I. Generalidades y Bases Anatómicas

(Intraoral Approach)

(Transcutaneous Approach)
