virus มีผลทำให้ cellular function , immune response of host
– ตัวมันไป modified genetic material ใน host cell
– RNA virus เป็นunstable , ทำให้เกิด multiple mutation และเกิด systemic disease (measles)

แต่ถ้าเป็น DNA virus จะ stableและทำให้เกิด local infection เช่น human papilloma virus wart , molluscum

Herpes simplex infection เป็น acquire by local contact และ reactive at inoculate site , มักจะเป็นที่ mucosae เช่น lips , หรือ genital

Herpes zoster(Shingles) เป็น reactive จากติดเชื้อครั้งที่แล้ว เชื้อ varicella zoster virus หรือ chicken pox

ยารักษาการติดเชื้อไวรัส (Antiviral medication )มีไม่มาก ส่วนใหญ่จะเป็นการป้องกันลดการติดเชื้อโดยการฉีดวัคซีน

virus ไม่มี cell structure จึงต้องการ host ในการขยายตัว replication and synthesise
– แต่ virus จะทำเกี่ยวกับ gene -> จึงทำให้เกิด disease , trigger immune response และผ่านทาง natural selection
– virus replicate ใน host โดยที่ไม่ฆ่า host , ทำให้ gene expression ถูกจำกัด และอาจจะทำให้คล้ายคลึงกับ host , ทำให้ immunity of host ถูก down-regulate
– การเปลี่ยนแปลงgene of virus เป็นได้ทั้ง drift คือ ค่อยๆเปลี่ยน minor mutation
และแบบ Shift หรือ major change of recombination of virus genome

RNA virus เช่น HPV , HIV ทั้งคู่เป็น unstable , ทำให้เกิดทั้ง drift and shift ได้ถึง 2% ของ genome ที่เปลี่ยนแปลงในแต่ละปี
ทำให้เกิด systemic disease ในมนุษย์ และเกิด cutaneous eruption eg viral exanthem

virus สามารถเข้าทาง CNS ระบบประสาท ทาง axonal transport
บางชนิดเกาะติด tropism กับ protein-specific cell surface receptor
eg HPV มี trophism for keratinocytes
